Subjects:
I tutor grades K-8 in all subjects, and 9-12 in everything but science. I tutor math through algebra 1 and geometry. I also teach drawing and digital art (you can see a few of my portfolio pieces here) to all ages.
About me:
I was raised in Dunnellon; after getting two degrees from UF, I worked in Georgia as a middle school teacher for five years. I've moved back to Gainesville to start work on my Ph.D. at UF, but I enjoy teaching too much to stay away from it altogether!
Experience:
- Tutor, Student Support Services, Central Florida Community College, 1996-97.
- Teacher, Union Grove Middle School. Language arts, Social Studies, Math, Media, grades 6-8; taught both learning-disabled and gifted students, 2002-07.
- GRE prep teacher and tutor, PowerScore, 2007-08.
Qualifications:
- National Merit Scholar
- B.A. and M.Ed., University of Florida
- Study abroad at Cambridge University, England
- Multiple teaching awards and nominations
- State of Florida certified teacher.
- Scored 1590 out of 1600 on the GRE.
Philosophy:
- Individualized.Every student can succeed--but not in the same ways. My tutoring is always tailored to the unique strengths and weaknesses of each student.
- Focused on concepts.Struggling students don't need more facts and rules to memorize--they need to organize them so they make sense. I help students understand key concepts, so the rules and facts fall into place.
- Active.Listening is not learning. Instead of just talking at students, I guide them as they figure out problems on their own.

Sorry! I've had to give up my tutoring because I'm involved in too many other projects. If you want to find out more about what I'm doing now, check out my blog at jasonpriem.com.
